Vol. 2 – Porch Season Has Officially Arrived!
Welcome back to This Week in Albany, your go-to guide to all things blooming, buzzing, and happening around Washington Park Inn.
Spring is here in full force, and Albany is coming alive. Whether you're here to close that business deal, get away for the weekend, or claim the porch as your own personal retreat (we get it), here’s what’s going on in town this week:
Our Weeping Cherry Is In Full Bloom -Step right outside our door and see our weeping cherry tree in full bloom. It’s like a delicate pink cloud hanging in the air, and we’re sure you’ll want to snap a photo or two (before we start charging admission). Trust us, this is one you won’t want to miss.
Tulip Festival Is Almost Here - Washington Park is prepping for its annual Tulip Festival next weekend, but the flowers have already started their colorful show. Get here before the crowds and be sure to stop by the porch for some much-needed post-selfie relaxation.
Live Music at Lark Hall - If you’re in the mood for live music, Lark Hall has you covered. This Thursday, an indie folk group will take the stage, serenading you with melodies that will make you forget for a moment that you’re in Albany. (It’s the good kind of forgetting.)
Outdoor Theatre Warm-Ups - Want a little culture with your stroll? The Playhouse Stage Company is rehearsing in Washington Park this week, so you could find yourself watching a spontaneous, free performance. It’s the best kind of surprise, like discovering an unlisted book at the library.
🍻 New Favorite Drink on Lark Street - Savoy Taproom has introduced a new seasonal favorite: the Porch Punch. It’s fruity, light, and perfectly sippable while you kick back and watch the world roll by from their outdoor patio. You’ll feel just like you’re on vacation—even if you’re not.
Weather Check - Expect mostly sunny skies with highs in the 60s, plus a little rain on Friday night (but don’t worry, it won’t ruin your plans). Perfect weather for a leisurely stroll, some porch time, and a whole lot of pretending you have nothing to do.
Dog of the Week: Winston - Meet Winston, the bulldog who snores with the authority of an ancient king and the charm of a grumpy old man. His naps are so legendary, they’ve become an official part of the Inn’s ambiance. You’ll hear him before you see him—but once you do, you’ll know why he’s got our hearts.
Don’t Miss…
A peaceful sunset stroll through Washington Park
Enjoying some live jazz drifting from a porch on Willett Street
Getting your coffee fix at JA. Pequeño Coffee—because you deserve it
Join us every Monday for a fresh take on what’s happening in Albany. We’ll keep it light, fun, and just quirky enough to impress your Uber driver without giving away that you're actually starting to blend in as a local.
Until next week,
Rock steady, porch lovers,
